MARCH 2020
In the coming unit, the 6th graders will work with plane geometry concepts. They will learn about the properties of lines and angles. Then, they will classify angles according to their degree measures. They will work with triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons, including congruent figures. Next, the students will investigate circles and circle graphs. We will conclude our unit by focusing on constructions, such as congruent segments and bisecting a segment.
To support your child’s learning at home, have a discussion to relate drawings of an architect to geometry. The drawings and models architects make rely on many geometric principles. Architects use creativity, math, science, and art to plan buildings that are not only beautiful, but functional, safe, and economical. Architects also use geometry to understand spatial relationships. They use ratios and percents to plan scale drawings and build scale models too.
Working on math facts outside of school is always beneficial. Besides any assigned practice in IXL and ALEKS, extra time spent in both of these is strongly recommended.
Be sure to check grades posted in School Speak on a regular basis. As always, feel free to email me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support in your child’s education!
Warmly,
Mrs. Conte
